Nine of Shelby County’s K-12 schools received an A rating — the highest possible — from the Indiana Department of Education in 2013, reflecting their ability to prepare students for the state’s needs. You’ll also see that performance reflected in test scores and impressive graduation rates.
Students and current workers have opportunities to develop and strengthen the skills employers need through higher education institutions. From career-focused vocational education to postgraduate training in business and professions, Shelby County and the surrounding area give employees access to the knowledge and skills they need to help their employers succeed.
ADVANTAGE SHELBY COUNTY
Advantage Shelby County is a new program that offers free college for Shelby County students. Beginning in 2016, Shelby County high school graduates will have their Ivy Tech Community College expenses covered if they pursue degrees in Advanced Automation and Robotics Technology, Business Administration, General Studies or Transfer General Education Core. The program also includes a mentorship component.
Eligibility requirements include:
- county residency
- 2016 graduate of a Shelby County high school, home school program or high school equivalency diploma
- minimum 2.0 GPA
- full-time Ivy Tech enrollment maintaining a 2.0 GPA and meeting satisfactory academic progress
- minimum of 10 hours of community service per semester
